Information for the Article 7 Vote Against Hungary
On 12 September members of the European Parliament (MEPs) voted in favour of triggering the treaty process against the Hungarian government for violation of fundamental EU values including democracy, the rule of law, and human rights. These information booklets were circulated to all MEPs in advance of the vote.
The first booklet (below) compiled the most damning quotes about Prime Minister Orbán and the Hungarian government from a range of highly respected politicians, intergovernmental organisations and NGOs, experts and media sources - from both the conservative and liberal sides of the political spectrum.
The second booklet (above) compiled the most damming quotes from the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán (and his spokesman) regarding his aversion to liberal democracy, condemning any speech against the government as disloyal, and statements concerning refugees and issues such as the death penalty.
